HoverspeedHoverspeed was created on the 25 October 1981 with the merger of two Cross-Channel operators – Seaspeed, which operated services to Calais and Boulogne from Dover, and Hoverlloyd, which operated to Calais from Pegwell Bay near Ramsgate. The Company’s history is closely linked with the development of commercial hovercraft, operated by the company up to the year 2000. Today, hoverspeed operates a fleet of high-speed catamarans and a monohull superseacat on Cross Channel services to France and Belgium.

The 81 metre fast ferry restored the historic Dover- Ostend ferry link in 1998 offering a journey of around 2 hours. Hoverspeed operates three 74 metre seacats - 'Danmark' , 'Great Britain' and 'Atlantic II' Built in Italy at a cost of £22 million, the exterior of the superseacat was styled by Sergio Farina of the famed industrial design company, Pininfarina, who also design for Ferrari and Alfa Romeo

The seacat catamarans make the Dover – Calais and Dover – Ostend crossings in just under one hour and around two hours respectively. The superseacat monohull high speed ferry operating on the Newhaven – Dieppe route for 2002 zips across the Channel in around two hours. hoverspeed's Newhaven - Dieppe route offers the most direct cross-Channel service between London and Paris. The seacat has no propellers - hoverspeed's catamarans are powered by a unique water jet propulsion system. The superseacat is the largest monohull fast ferry operating in UK waters.
